A special 5 Easy Questions!

Sorry if you read this at the GSN board...I goofed! But anyway...

1. Exactly how much were vowels after Rolf? On the Bob Goen premiere vowels were 200...but a later episode said they were 100.

2. Why did the budget get cut so much in daytime? Sajak's last show had a total of 112K, Rolf's premiere (the following Monday) was 77K, and Bob's premiere (6 mos. later) was 41K!

3. What time did Wheel of Fortune come on when it moved to Cbs...and when it came back to NBC, what time was it on?

4. Was clearance low when it was on CBS, cause I SERIOUSLY don't remember it being on.

5. Did anyone else ever watch this show and laugh at how cheap it was? (My 10-year old brother watched an episode of Goen WOF and said- "It looks like they spent all the money on the computer graphics")

 I'll answer the ones I know...:)

3) When WoF came to CBS, it aired at 10:30 a.m. (EST), right after "Family Feud". When it came back to NBC, at least where I lived, it aired at 10am.

4) It didn't seem like clearance was an issue for CBS, from what I remember in my TVG...All 5 stations listed (WCBS-2 from NY, WCAU-10 from Philly, WLYH-15 from Lancster/Lebanon, WHP-21 from Harrisburg, WYOU-22 from Scranton) carried the entire CBS morning lineup.

5) I didn't laugh at the cheapness, but was flabbergasted. I remember seeing the wheel spinning around on the first CBS telecast and wondering if I really was seeing what I thought I saw - $75 spaces....Indeed I was.

 1. The were $200 on CBS, dropped to $100 on NBC.
2. My guess is that the network didn't have much faith in life after Pat; so they slashed the budget.  Also, when Goen came on, they dropped the shopping format; thus having to give out cash.

To answer the first question, vowels were originally $200 on the Goen version, then reduced to $100.  I think Goen is the only American host to ever charge any amount other than $250.

 If you were in Cleveland at the time, the area's then-CBS affiliate, WJW, didn't show Wheel of Fortune or Now You See It.  I don't recall what filled the 10 AM slot but Jackpot was on at 10:30 AM on WJW around that time.  The Joker's Wild and The Challengers filled the 10-11 AM hour, at least for the first part of the 1990-91 season.

Now that you mention it...I DO remember Jackpot being on "Newscenter 8"! TJW too, even though I try to forget.

As for cheapness- I have never laughed as hard as I did at WOF when the "prize space" for a trip to Lake Tahoe came up- for a "BIG" $916.

 The first season of syndie WOF saw $500 in Cash as the special prize on one occasion, and a $400 camcorder as the prize on another occasion.

Understand, though, that 1989-ish was the point where the nighttime show was giving away $15,000 cars as WHEEL prizes, so to see a $900-ish prize on the wheel in the daytime version on the same day was absolutely abysmal.

 Neither did KHOU in Houston or KENS in San Antonio.  KPRC did get to carry three months of Goen when the show returned to NBC.

 3) I wanna say 9:30 am. At least that's the time Norfolk got...I'm guessing Combs Feud was on at 9 or 10.
4) Not sure, but reading some of the other user comments, I guess so, which is surprising considering Wheel was much bigger in the late 80s.
5) I always scratched my head at the $75 space and the $5,000 cash prize in the bonus round, esp. that spinning $5,000 display that hung in the background.

 The CBS sanctioned time slot for Wheel was 10:30AM EST, and the 1991 NBC sanctioned time slot for Wheel was 10AM EST. Some stations did air it at other times, certainly true for the NBC 1991 version(9AM aired on WNBC)

It was ironically Rolf's tenure that produced the daytime version's all-time winner: The lady won $65,271 over three days.

When I first saw that version of WoF, the $50 and $75 spaces were gone.  Where were these spaces on the wheel, anyway?

 They were exactly what people have been saying they are: regular spaces that paid off at a mere $50 or $75 per letter.

 The $50 space was next to Free Spin.  It was a pink space later changed to $250.

The $75 space was in the row between the Bankrupt and Lose A Turn.  It was later increased to $400.
